Meet with them, see their portfolio and price list. Make sure that you connect with them. They will be your "shadow" for most of the day. Also, make sure that you like their photographic style, and that it fits what you are looking for. Be careful when looking for a photographer that sounds too good to be true, price wise. Generally it is too good to be true, you get what you pay for.

Sign a contract. Be certain you know exactly what you are getting.
